Love, Fandom Forward
For 19 years, we turned fans into heroes.
Fandom Forward was founded with a simple idea: what if fans used their passion and creativity to make the world a more loving, equitable place? That idea has driven hundreds of thousands of fan activists to do exactly that, and the world is demonstrably better for it. After 19 years of doing this work, it feels like the right time to write our epilogue.
When we started this organization, the idea of mobilizing fans towards social justice was novel and revolutionary. Now, we live in a world where fan organizing has become so much more recognizable–from K-pop fans taking action to the #FreeBritney movement–by activists, movement organizations, and everyday people. While we can’t take the credit for all of this momentum, Fandom Forward certainly paved the way for fan organizing to become so much more mainstream than it was 19 years ago.
Fandom Forward’s chapter in the great saga of organizing, especially fan organizing, is coming to a close. However, our work and our legacy persists in the communities we built and the fans and organizers we are connected with.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of our community and supported us through the years. We couldn’t have done this without you.
We wish all of you love, hope, creativity, and inspiration as we continue our journey forward, and hope to cross paths in unexpected and enriching ways in the coming years.
