From the pandemic to politics, teaching civics in 2021 can be incredibly complex - and yet incredibly important. FANS FIGHT BACK
The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated an already rising tide of fear-based, ultra conservative leaders grounded in white supremacy and oppression. It’s an onslaught that has led much of the world to high levels of division and trauma. We desperately need a revitalization of civic imagination, and fandom is perfectly positioned to rise to the challenge. Learn from a panel of fan organizers why fans' creativity, passion, and expert community organizing can lead the way to a better story for our world.
PANELISTS:
Katie Bowers, Fandom Forward
Janae Phillips, Fandom Forward
Shawn Taylor, Scholar and Writer
Alexis Sanchez, Latinx Geeks
We’re presenting Fan Activist 101: Changing the World with Fandom at the Greenburgh Public Library’s Virtual FanCon, a convention celebrating all things anime, comics, sci-fi, gaming, and more!
